I consider the use of the word "craft" as a gate keeping mechanism and to keep Indigenous arts separate from the Fine Art world.

 

In this series, which includes Long Walk, I scale beads to super large size and create work from them. These are monumental pieces meant to confront the viewer with bead Work that is also sculpture and which cannot be excluded from the term "fine art". The central motif of this work, executed in black beads, is a design that can be found as painted rock art near Kalispell, MT.
